Business Communications Manager 3.0 Programming Record P0993135 03
Configuring individual telephones
Each telephone you install on your system requires a DN record. This record defines the telephone to
the system and determines which features will be available to the user. The tables in this section allow
you to record this information.
Note: Some telephones require other configuration information.
Companion handsets access a specific range of ISDN-based DN records.
DECT has a special media bay module that requires pre-programming. You must configure the DN records
before you subscribe any handset to the system.
T7406 wireless handsets must register to the base stations and choose a base station port. This port is
connected to the Business Communications Manager and represents a specific DN available to the DSM the
base station is attached to. You can configure the DN record before or after this procedure.
Nortel i2002 and i2004 and the Nortel Networks i2050 Soft Phone must be registered to the system from the
telephone location. These telephones can be set to auto-generate a DN record, or you can choose which
range of DNs, within the digital range, that you want to use. If you choose to assign a specific range, you
can configure the DN records before the telephones are registered to the system.
NetVision telephones are initially configured through the Symbol NetVision Phone Administrator (NVPA)
application. The data is then uploaded to the telephone. At that point, a specific DN record is assigned to the
handset. You can also configure the DN record before you perform this procedure.
Using Wizards to add users
Most of these fields can be assigned to individual or groups of telephones using the DN Record
Templates Wizard and Add Users Wizard. It helps to fill out a record before using the wizards so have
something to refer to when you create a template or user record. Refer to the Programming Operations
Guide for details about using the wizards.
Copying set programming
The Copy command is found under Configuration when you click on a DN record heading.
You can use this command to copy only the system data, or you can use this command to copy system
data and user data. Be aware, that some data is not copied. If data relies on the model of telephone, as
is the case with button programming, for example, it will not get copied if the telephone is a different
model. As well, the Copy command does not copy any system data that is meant to be unique to each
telephone.
In the following forms, headings with this symbol ° beside them are copied when you choose to copy
system and user data.
