About this guide
The BCM 4.0 Administration Guide describes how to manage and maintain BCM systems at the
Release 4.0 level using BCM Element Manager. In this guide, BCM Release 4.0 refers to
BCM 200, BCM 400, and BCM 1000 main units that are running the BCM Release 4.0 software.
The BCM product portfolio also includes the BCM50, which is described in a separate guide. For
information about managing the BCM50, see the BCM50 Administration Guide.
Purpose
The concepts, operations, and tasks described in the guide relate to the FCAPS (fault,
configuration, accounting, performance, and security) management features of the BCM system.
This guide also describes additional administrative tasks, such as log management, backups,
software updates, monitoring, and inventory management. Use the BCM Element Manager to
perform these administrative tasks.
