Choosing the Daemon
The operations GET, CONTROL, FREE or SEND broadcast send requests to all
VTCPD daemons attached to the vmst. These operations cause no problems so long as
only one VTCPD daemon is running. However, problems can arise when more then
one VTCPD daemon is attached to the vmst.
Ambiguity can be avoided if the VTCPD daemons use different names or if individual
port numbers are specified in the PRS field. If several VTCPD daemons are running
simultaneously, then each VTCPD must have a unique name. The unique VTCPD
names must be specified in the $ASEHOME/etc/services file and by the
command line option -n name.
The application obtains the daemon port number from the data portion of gotres
condition, which is returned for GET request. The format of the data portion is
XXX:YYY:ZZZ, where X, Y and Z are connection number, slot number and daemon's
port respectively. The port can then be used in the PRS field.
Example for the VTCPD daemon:
vtcpd -s 155 -n hlink1...
