VTCPD Message Timing
The VENGINE can be configured to maintain a resource intermediate timer and a
total resource error timer for VTCPD message requests (see Time-Outs on page 39.)
Both the resource intermediate timer and the resource error timer are disabled by
default.
VENGINE starts timing when an application requests data from the host. When the
intermediate timer expires, the application speaks a “Please hold on” message and
VENGINE restarts the intermediate timer. When the error timer expires, VENGINE
sends ertimeout to the application (see VTCPD Status and Exception Conditions
Reference on page 106.)
To configure the resource intermediate timer and the resource error timer, use the
Application Manager Configure Applications tool. In the Execution Options window,
use the Resource Inter field to set the intermediate timer and the Resource Error field
to set the error timer. For details about the Configure Applications tool, see the
PeriView Reference Manual.
These timers can be enabled using the VENGINE command line option -
Q<ito>:<eto> where <ito> and <eto> are the values in seconds (0 disables a
timer).
The applications can be used to set these message timers dynamically, see Setting
Resource Timers from an Application on page 97, and Handling Resource
Timeouts on page 97.
