VTCPD Features User Manual
If the host sends a message before the application executes a Resource block to receive
the message, VTCPD holds the host message. VTCPD can also be configured to send
messages asynchronously (see Asynchronous Replies and Reply Notification on page
89.)
To avoid possible race conditions, applications should ignore both intertimeout
and ertimeout after receiving the host message (see VTCPD Message Timing on
page 96.)
Receiving Message Headers
VTCPD supports either fixed length messages or variable length messages delimited
by a character or preceded by a header (see Message Format on page 46.)
In addition, VTCPD can be configured to remove (that is, strip) the header before it
sends the message to the application, or to send the entire message (including the
header).
If VTCPD is configured to send the header with the message, the application can be
set to parse (or process in some other manner) this header information. For
information about using composite folders to parse data, see the PeriProducer User’s
Guide.
For messages sent from the application, VTCPD always supplies the delimiter or
header.

Send and receive additional
messages using the message ID
